Here’s the latest gossip on the street: “Breakfast Club” co-host DJ Envy’s business associate, Cesar Pina, was apprehended on October 18 for his suspected involvement in a fraudulent real-estate scheme. DJ Envy, whose real name is RaaShaun Casey, had collaborated with Pina in house-flipping ventures within New Jersey and featured him numerous times on the “Breakfast Club” as Flipping NJ.
Now, federal authorities allege that Pina conned dozens of people out of millions, charging him with a count of wire fraud.
On the day of Pina’s charging, NBC 4 New York disclosed a raid on iHeartRadio’s New York office, where “Breakfast Club” operates from, resulting in the seizure of electronics. DJ Envy has not been charged as yet, however, the federal complaint against Pina does make mention of “a renowned disc jockey and radio persona” that is not too difficult to recognize. But what exactly is happening here?

Apparently, starting in 2017, Pina began to accept investments intended to refurbish and resale properties in New Jersey and beyond, guaranteeing a 20-45% return on investment in a mere five months. Shockingly, prosecutors indicate that Pina allegedly misused some of the funding for personal purposes and even utilized new investments to repay older investors.
A few days before his charging, NBC 4 New York brought reports of several distressed investors who hadn’t received the pledged cash from the venture.
It seems Pina also sought investments in properties where he had no ownership, swindled numerous investors into funding the same properties, and in one instance even offered an investor a jewellery repayment. Now, Pina along with his wife, Jennifer, are potentially staring in the face of 20 lawsuits.

Prosecutors state that prior to starting the alleged house-flipping scheme, Pina had successfully built credibility through carrying out real-estate seminars alongside DJ Envy. The project was often publicized on the “Breakfast Club” by Envy who reportedly claimed they were a source of assistance to many.
According to reports by Billboard, DJ Envy is a co-defendant in nine of the lawsuits filed against Pina.

In a surprising and unexpected Instagram Livestream, Pina claimed that DJ Envy played no part in these claims against Pina stating, “DJ Envy has nothing to do with any of these 20 lawsuits of these people who are suing me,” (as recorded by Billboard). Despite stating this, he also referred to Envy not as a victim but rather as a business partner and investor.
