Zelle is a money transfer app that’s supposed to be a safe and easy way to send funds to your contacts.
But it’s come under fire in recent months as con artists have used the app for scams, leading to thousands of dollars in losses per victim, in many cases.
To perpetrate the fraud, swindlers impersonate financial institutions and convince people that money has been stolen from their bank accounts. And the only way to get the money back is to “Zelle” funds to themselves, they tell their victims.
