Mississauga and Brampton residents should keep an eye out for this text scam, particularly if they use the massively popular streaming service Netflix.
A local resident recently reported getting a text message alleging that the payment information associated with their Netflix account was incorrect.
The text provides a link, urging the user to click it and update their payment information to “avoid suspension.” It looks like this:
The text is a scam — Netflix says it will never ask customers to enter their information in a text or email (including credit or debit card numbers, bank account details, and passwords).
The streaming service also says it will never request payment through a third-party vendor or website.
“Scammers can’t get information from you unless you give it to them. So don’t click any links in the messages or reply to them,” Netflix advises.
