Fraud Alert: PPP Loan Scheme
The Idaho Department of Finance has raised concerns about a fraudulent scheme aimed at defrauding small business owners.
The imposter, claiming to be a law enforcement official, contacts Idaho’s small business owners alleging that they are under investigation for PPP loan fraud. The scammer goes to the extent of dispatching forged court documents asserting that an arrest warrant has been issued in the owner’s name, demanding payment via cryptocurrency to avert imprisonment.
The swindling method may seem novel, but the tactics employed are not. Law enforcement officials will never ask you to transfer or wire funds electronically. Individuals are encouraged to get in touch with the agency that the caller claimed to represent for identity confirmation.
Victims of this scam are urged to file a complaint with the FCC via this link.
