The department said scammers are sending text messages, pretending to be delivery companies in an effort to obtain people’s personal information.
LPD said you should never provide your personal information in response to an unsolicited request, whether it’s over the phone or online. If you didn’t initiate the communication, the department said you should not provide any information.
Police also said if you believe the contact may be legitimate, you can contact the business or financial institution to make sure.
LPD also recommends viewing your account statements regularly to ensure all charges are correct. If your statement is late in arriving, police say you should call your financial institution to find out why. If your financial institution allows electronic account access, you should periodically review it to keep an eye out for suspicious activity.
