When Cosmin Cernica received a DM from a loyal Instagram fan with a heartbreaking story of a medical emergency requiring costly treatment in America, he wanted to do all he could to help.
The 28-year-old social media expert from Chelsea was touched by the woman’s tragic predicament, and engaged in a lengthy conversation with her over the course of an evening.
“She said: ‘I’m trying to raise money because I have some health issues and my health insurance won’t cover it all – I need a kidney transplant’,” Cosmin explained.

“She was telling me that she had an accident a few years ago, and now her kidney, the one kidney she had left, is not functioning well.
“She was trying to raise money and wondering if I can help.”
Cosmin said he and the woman had a “nice conversation”, in which she was very polite, wrote well, and he felt it was “all so genuine”.
She made reference to events from his life that he’d shared on his profile over a year ago, and seemed to be a loyal follower who respected him.
The woman asked Cosmin for £2,000 to go towards her medical expenses, explaining that while this wouldn’t cover the full cost, she and her mother were fundraising from a variety of sources to get the money together.
Before agreeing to anything, Cosmin asked her to have a video call – “then there is nothing to hide”.
