Guwahati police, led by Latasil Police, recently detained seven individuals implicated in a major railway loan fraud amounting to Rs 10 crore.

The carefully woven fraudulent scheme consisted of setting up bogus bank accounts under railway employees’ names in key banks such as State Bank of India (SBI) and Punjab National Bank (PNB). The scam hints at the possible involvement of senior Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) officials.

The perpetrators are suspected of converting authentic salary accounts of railway personnel to loan accounts. They strategically changed bank account details within the railway framework to facilitate loan fraud. This cunning scheme permitted the culprits to loot significant money undetected.

To further the deceit, the fraudsters counterfeited numerous stamps and documents that ostensibly belonged to railway employees. This involved intermediaries, data entry operators in the railway department, and brokerage networks.

The police have arrested individuals including Phanindra Kumar, an NFR accounts department official, Ramzan Ali, Manoj Basfor, Ajit Basfor, and Biraj Das. Approximately 200 counterfeit loan forms were seized in the operation.

On Monday, two more suspects from Rangiya were detained. They are suspected to be involved in the production of counterfeit stamps and paperwork. The police are working relentlessly to dismantle the entire fraud network.

Latasil Police’s action reiterates their commitment to curb corruption and ensure justice. They are performing continuous investigations to reveal and penalize all those involved in this large-scale railway loan scam.

This successful operation not only exposes the susceptibility of the financial and governmental systems but also emphasizes law enforcement’s persistent efforts to suppress sophisticated criminal activities. The reveal of this scam is a clear warning indicating the need for continuous vigilance.
