Have you heard of the name Vincent Gambino Baker? This individual has been causing havoc for Texans across the state, from Corpus Christi and Amarillo, to El Paso and Texarkana, and even spreading his menace nationwide.

He’s best known for his intimidating presence in your email inbox. Vincent Gambino Baker poses as a legal professional associated with the BM Lawyer firm, seemingly credible, right?

Afraid not.

His fraudulent email has been circulated nationwide for several years now.

Identified as a phishing scam, this email has continued to make rounds, indicating its effectiveness in duping recipients.

  • The email states that your presence is necessary in court without giving specific details about the type of court.
  • The phrasing used – “notice to appear in court” – raises questions. Which court exactly? Most localities have more than one court.
  • Vincent vaguely refers to the location as the county courthouse. Which county courthouse is he referring to? Many Texans reside in regions with multiple county courthouses.

The scam starts to unfold when you are prompted to click a link to access the court notice. This is Vincent’s trap. Upon clicking, you are asked for personal information, which should never be shared via a link in an email.

And then comes the threat at the end of the email – failure to comply will lead to a warrant. A strategy commonly used by scammers to instil fear and push recipients to disclose their information.

Let’s be clear, Vincent Gambino Baker isn’t a real person or a legitimate lawyer. Scammers may use his name to swindle unsuspecting victims out of their personal information.

Be Smart. Steer Clear of the Scam.

If you’re ever summoned to court, you will receive an official summons via postal mail or be served by a constable, process server, or sheriff. You certainly won’t be informed via a haphazard email.

Stay on guard against suspicious, unsolicited emails. If something seems off, trust your instincts. Don’t let a swindler gain unauthorized access to your personal information.
