HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The local law enforcement unit, Henrico County Police Division, is alerting its citizens of a notorious scam across their jurisdiction. The scam involves deceitful contractors swindling the locals.

In a recent social media post, precisely on Friday, Dec. 30, via Twitter, Henrico Police advised citizens to reject any offers concerning home renovation or repair work from suspicious individuals or groups. As per the construction scam, the fraudulent contractors commit to performing tasks, insist on taking half of the payment upfront, and then either abruptly stop without completion or don’t even initiate the work, states Henrico Police.

Any Henrico resident suspecting that they, or someone within their circle, were duped by this scam is encouraged to reach out to the Henrico Police at 804-501-5000.

The law enforcement authority classified this scam under the criminal violation of Virginia Code 18.2-178, which categorizes the crime of acquiring money through deceit. For further assurance, residents can cross-verify the credentials of potential service providers using the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation’s licensure database of contractors.
